Waiting out the wind in Bangor

25 June 2023 – Bangor, Northern Ireland

Due to a strong south wind, we have spent the past few days in a town called Bangor in Northern Ireland. This is a great place to hang out in, as there are lots of things to do and we had the opportunity to visit with some friends who live here.

Behind Bangor Castle is a beautiful walled garden, with lots of different bright flowers and plants, as well as a fountain and archways with roses wound around them. I had a great time reading there on Friday and Saturday morning, and was going to go on Sunday but it was pouring rain.

I spent the rest of Friday walking around town and going into thrift stores and a used bookshop. I spent hours in the bookshop, which apparently had over 40,000 books in stock, most of them £2 to £4. For dinner, we had a delicious pizza that was also the biggest pizza I have ever seen.

We spent most of Saturday with our friends, who drove us to the Ulster Folk Museum, which is a similar idea to Pioneer Village. There were lots of preserved old houses, with staff walking around in costume and explaining how the former inhabitants of the house had done their embroidery or worked as a blacksmith. It was also tractor day there, which meant that there were a bunch of old-fashioned Ferguson tractors driving around everywhere.

Once we got back, my dad and Jonas began putting up the solar panels, and then we went to an Indian restaurant with our friends for dinner.

On Sunday it was pouring rain, so we mainly stayed inside. As the weather is forecasted to improve on Monday, we will probably leave here that morning for the Isle of Man.
