Fathers Day and Elton John Concert!

19 June 2023 – Ardrossan, Scotland

My mom and I were walking to the bookstore on Saturday afternoon when we were informed that Elton John was playing in Glasgow that night. We quickly went online and managed to get tickets for Sunday night, his final performance in Glasgow and his last time playing in the UK on his farewell tour.

Then we completed our mission of going to the bookstore, which was closing in ten minutes. It’s right next to the marina and one of my favourite bookstores; I wanted to read so many of the books they had but managed to restrain myself and only buy two.

The next day was Father’s Day, so my mom and I made a brunch and invited Gerald and our friend James over. I also made cupcakes, my first baking project on the new boat, and they were surprisingly successful.

Me and my dad’s train to Glasgow, where the concert was going to be, left around four o’clock, so it was a bit of a mad dash to get off the boat and to the train station. We made it on time and in an hour we were in Glasgow Central Station (which is a really cool place and looks like it came out of a steam-punk novel). The plan was originally to get dinner first, but all of the restaurants we went to were full because of the Elton John concert. Luckily we did manage to get dinner once we were inside the venue.

The concert was amazing! It was in a huge stadium that was packed with thousands of people and my dad and I had almost ideal seats on the balcony. Elton John’s performance was great and we could barely tell that he was actually seventy-six; his voice was still really good. It was super loud though and I think I went temporarily deaf. We tried to take pictures but none of them are great; in most of them Elton John is just a glowing blob. Still, it was a great opportunity to see Elton John in person, especially as it was supposedly his last performance in the UK ever.
